Reading Harry Potter for the First Time – Introduction

harry potter introduction

Hi, I’m Cheyenne, I’m 21 years old, and I’ve never read Harry Potter.

I’ve been a HUGE Harry Potter fan since I was about 8. At first I thought Harry Potter was totally stupid (I know, I know), but my across-the-street neighbor kept pushing me to watch it. Eventually, during a playdate at her house, she put on Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone – and I was hooked.

I was totally obsessed as a child. I played ‘Harry Potter’ in the yard with sticks for wands, I had all the games for the Gamecube, and I wanted to marry Draco Malfoy (I even wrote a song about him). I started going to midnight movie premieres as soon as I was old enough, and I remember being on vacation with my family and demanding they take me to the bookstore in the middle of the night to go to the book release for Deathly Hallows, which I proceeded to buy and never read.

Everyone always knew me as the girl who was completely obsessed with Harry Potter, but no one ever knew I had never read the books. I felt like a fake fan. Everyone said the books were incredible, and here I was, a total avid reader, who had never even bothered to buy the rest of the books. I was ashamed.

Fast forward to today, and I’ve had the whole box set sitting in my room for a year. Just staring at me, judging me. And I finally decided to take action.

It’s time for me to read Harry Potter.

I hope you’ll all join me as I read the books for the first time, write down my thoughts, and blog about it, and I hope we can have some discussion in the comments! All jokes aside, I’m so excited to finally read these books, and it’s actually somewhat of a big deal to me. I’m actually sort of nervous that they won’t live up to the hype, but – I guess we’ll find out together!

Let’s do this!

  3. I have a feeling that once you start, you won’t be emerging from your reading nest for quite some time – I don’t read that genre often but those books are magical in every way. 😉

  4. I am a huge fan and I love the films but the books will wow you and have surprises that you won’t know from the the films. I cannot wait to hear your journey as you go. I am always up for a discussion for all things Potter and Beasts. Enjoy!

  5. The books are SOOOO much better! I actually didn’t like it at first either. My cousin kind of pushed it on me and let me borrow the first book. I kept trying to get past the first chapter and when I finally did I couldn’t put the book down. Granted when I started the book (I was 10) I really wasn’t much of a reader.
