I’m so excited to be bringing you this series. I was inspired by Kayla over at BooksandLala, who came up with this idea for a video recently! I thought it sounded like a lot of fun, so I decided to bring it to you guys on the blog. I hope you enjoy watching me figure out whether my opinions align with the general consensus or not – maybe I’ll love 10 books, maybe I’ll love half and hate half, maybe I won’t enjoy any of them. Stay tuned to find out!
I followed Kayla’s guidelines – the book has to have been out for at least 4 months. I made a shelf of all books I own and haven’t read, and sorted them by rating. There will be two follow up posts – one for the top 5 highest rated, and one for the top 5 lowest rated. So – here’s what I’m going to be reading!
Top 5 Highest Rated Books
Title: Obsidio
Author: Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
Rating: 4.57
Release Date: March 13, 2018
My Feelings: I’m excited! I read Gemina last month and absolutely loved it. The Illuminae Files books are some of my absolute favorites. I’ve been putting off finishing the series for way too long – so I guess it’s time I see how things end!
Title: Skyward
Author: Brandon Sanderson
Rating: 4.55
Release Date: November 6, 2018
My Feelings: This was on my TBR for March, so hopefully I’ll still get to it this month. I am excited about this one, I love sci fi and it seems like a very interesting book. I’ve never read a Brandon Sanderson book before so that is also exciting, because everyone says he’s amazing!
Title: Where the Crawdads Sing
Author: Delia Owens
Rating: 4.53
Release Date: August 14, 2018
My Feelings: I’ve been exciting to get to this one. I’m not usually a fan of historical fiction, but this one really appealed to me. The title just reminds me of home. I really don’t know much about this one, but I’m excited to pick it up and be surprised.
Title: Six of Crows
Author: Leigh Bardugo
Rating: 4.46
Release Date: September 29, 2015
My Feelings: I can’t believe I’ve gone this long without reading Six of Crows. I can’t believe I’ve gone this long without reading a Leigh Bardugo book. I’m ready to see what all the hype is about, and I’m hoping I love it as much as everyone else does. I’m excited to meet these characters and hopefully fall in love with them.
Title: The Help
Author: Kathryn Stockett
Rating: 4.46
Release Date: February 10, 2009
My Feelings: This is probably the book I’m least excited about, but I’m still looking forward to reading it. I’ve owned this book for ages, and never even thought about picking it up. I was hoping this challenge would encourage me to pick up books that were low on my priority list, and it definitely came through.
Top 5 Lowest Rated Books
Title: Me and Me
Author: Alice Kuipers
Rating: 3.02
Release Date: October 2, 2018
My Feelings: I’m not sure how I feel about this one. I was excited for it when I got it, but now that I’ve heard such bad things, I’m not super excited. It is a short contemporary, so it should be a quick read. Hopefully I’ll enjoy it anyway!
Title: You Are the Everything
Author: Karen Rivers
Rating: 3.09
Release Date: October 30, 2018
My Feelings: Again, I don’t have many feelings either way about this one. I don’t know too much about it, but it sounded good when I added it to my TBR. I’m going to give it a shot (okay, I’m going to push myself to finish it even if I don’t like it), and we’ll see how I feel about it!
Title: The Dinner
Author: Herman Koch
Rating: 3.21
Release Date: February 12, 2013
My Feelings: When I picked this one up, I was under the impression that this was a beloved book. I was wrong. However, Kayla from Books and Lala really liked it, so I’m hoping I feel the same way!
Title: Survive the Night
Author: Danielle Vega
Rating: 3.22
Release Date: July 7, 2015
My Feelings: I love horror, and I loved The Merciless, so I was so excited for this one when I picked it up. I like Danielle Vega’s writing, and I think she’s capable of writing some truly scary YA horror fiction. I was so upset when I saw the ratings for this one. I’m so hoping I’m in the minority and end up loving it as much as I loved The Merciless.
Title: The Sacrifice Box
Author: Martin Stewart
Rating: 3.35
Release Date: August 28, 2018
My Feelings: This was a total cover buy for me. I absolutely love this cover. It feels so retro and nostalgic. I was hoping it would be a fun, spooky horror novel, and I’m still hoping I was right. I’m excited to give this one a shot.
That’s what I’m going to be reading! I’ll be back soon to update you all on what I read and how I felt about it. If you’ve read any of these books, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments, and we can discuss!
I actually really want to read The Help, I loved the film!

This challenge is really neat! In my experience the Dinner is one of those things that you either love or hate, but hopefully you enjoy it!
